IMDOS is proud to have actively participated in the IORA Marine Debris Workshop held on the 24th – 26th March, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand. The event brought together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders from around the Indian Ocean region to address the growing threat of marine debris. Dr. Maria Belen Alfonso, co-chair of IMDOS' Task Team on Surface Microplastics and Steering Committee member, shared her expertise at the workshop. She introduced IMDOS and highlighted the initiative’s ongoing efforts to advance global marine debris monitoring through integrated, interoperable systems. The workshop underscored the importance of scientific research, innovation, and regional collaboration in addressing marine pollution. Participants explored innovative solutions, shared best practices, and discussed the economic and ecological impacts of marine debris. This marks another milestone in IMDOS' continued engagement with the international community. We are pleased to announce that we will be organizing a webinar later this year, continuing our collaboration with IORA to drive forward the shared goals of marine debris reduction and environmental sustainability.
