[News from our members] IMDOS Represented at Australian IMOS Annual Meeting and Nano and Micro Research Consortium Conference

07 April 2025

Cherie Motti, from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) and a member of the IMDOS Steering Committee, attended the Australian Integrated Marine Observing System (IMOS) Annual Meeting held from February 25-27, 2025. At the event, AIMS presented its work on stakeholder engagement in preparation for the publication of a Marine Microplastics Annual Report Card. Cherie also participated in 2nd Nano and Microplastics Research Consortium Conference held in March 2025. The conference, which brought together experts from around the world, focused on addressing the pervasive issue of nano- and microplastic pollution. Cherie's talk, titled "Plasticisers: A Missing Component in Microplastic Ecological Risk Assessments?", focused on an often-overlooked aspect of microplastic pollution and its implications for ecological risk assessments.

While the primary focus of the events was not on IMDOS, Cherie took the opportunity to introduce IMDOS briefly to inform attendees about the initiative’s role in advancing global marine debris monitoring efforts. Cherie’s participation highlights the active engagement of IMDOS members in leading research and discussions around emerging marine debris challenges. This event provided another valuable opportunity to expand the reach of IMDOS and connect with key stakeholders working on marine science and environmental protection.

IMDOS is proud to be represented by experts like Cherie, who are contributing to vital conversations on environmental sustainability and pollution mitigation. IMDOS continues to support its members in their efforts to advance scientific knowledge and create innovative solutions to combat marine pollution.
